Resources to locate and write theses.

UBC Computer Science Theses

UBC Electronic Theses

Electronic theses and dissertations (EDTs) from 2008 on can be found in cIRcle: UBC’s Information Repository. These are available in full-text PDF format.

Retrospective theses and dissertations include theses from before 2008.

To help narrow your search go to Advanced Search and to the right of "In," select:

   Thesis Program and type "computer science" (including quotation marks)

   AND Thesis Copyright Date

Print Theses (1968 - May 2006)

Our print collection of theses and graduating essays covers 1968 - May 2006.

In the Reading Room catalogue, search by any of the following:

  • Author
  • Title
  • Keyword (author, title, date and degree - example: PHD 2008)

Some thesis proposals written by former doctoral students and BSc honours theses are also available in the Reading Room.

As they are converted to electronic format, theses may also be available in the  retrospective theses and dissertations section of cIRcle.

ACM Awards: Doctoral Dissertation Award

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD)

Promotes “the adoption, creation, use, dissemination and preservation of electronic theses and dissertations.” The website includes options for users to find, submit, and manage electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs).

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (UBC Library information page)

The PQDT database contains over 2 million records. Doctoral dissertations: 1861-present; masters theses: 1988-present (selective coverage). Online abstracts for dissertations available since July 1980, full text since 1997.

Theses Canada Portal 

Indexes over 220,000 Canadian theses and dissertations from 1965 on, held by the National Library of Canada. Provides free access to 46,000 full text electronic Canadian theses and dissertations covering 1998-2002.

Universal Index of Doctoral Dissertations in Progress

This site holds a database of doctoral dissertations in progress around the world.
