Alumni/Industry Lecture: George Chow - Big Data: Volume, Variety, Velocity

Date: Wednesday, April 20 2016 | 6 pm - 8 pm Everyone has heard about the three vees of big data—volume, variety and velocity. But what does a big data landscape look like in practice? And how does NoSQL and schema-less data fit into this? UBC computer science alumni and friends from the local tech community are invited to join  alumnus George Chow (BSc '92), CTO of Simba Technologies, as he examines what lies beyond volume, variety and velocity in big Data, and shares some real-world specifics from Big Data luminaries such as LinkedIn, Netflix and Yahoo. Doors open at 6 PM, and the talk will begin at 6:30 PM.
