Pets of CS

Meet the pets of UBC Computer Science! Many of our faculty, staff and students have furry companions. Some pets even come into the office to supervise us! Get to know some of our pets (and humans)! 

 

Foley

Foley is Administrative Support Jessica McKay's dog. Foley is a Skye Terrier from Ontario and she shy with strangers but loves a treat, as long as it's not chicken! She is usually in Room 216 on Fridays.

 

Willy

Willy, short for Willow, is Course Coordinator Emily Fuchs' cat. Willy enjoys long walks and simultaneously experiencing every possible thought in the universe at one time while somehow also not having any thoughts in her brain at all.

 

Peanut

Peanut, also known as Princess Cassiopeanut, devourer of toes, is Professor Ian Mitchell's dog. Peanut loves to snuggle, but only on your left side. If you are sitting on the left side of the couch or lying on the left side of the bed, she will whine until you move over.

 

Charlie White

Charlie is PhD student Vivian White's cat. Charlie holds a Bachelor's degree in sunbathing, and is currently working towards her Msc/PhD in hallway escapades.
 

 

Temaki

Temaki is Co-Head Margo Seltzer's cat. Temaki is, by far, the smartest creature in her household.


Roky

Ragnarok, Twilight of the Gods (or Roky for short) is Professor Ian Mitchell's cat. Roky purrs when he wants a pet and when he does not want a pet. Your blood sacrifice is gratefully acknowledged as suitable recompense if you get it wrong.

 

Lager

Lager is Director of Finance and Administration Jessica Wrinskelle's dog. Lager is 19 years old and has no teeth.


 

 

Momo

Momo is Assistant Professor Serena Wang's cat. Momo's thoughts are short and her tail is long.
 

 

Popo

Popo is PhD student Michael Yin's cat. Popo is brothers with Yuanyuan.
 

 

Yuanyuan

Yuanyuan is PhD student Michael Yin's cat. Yuanyuan is Popo's brother.

 

Bonbon

Bonbon is Assistant Professor Thomas Pasquier's dog. Bonbon was born and raised in the UK before she moved to British Columbia!

 

Enso Nakasato

Enso is Head's Assistant Brandon Nakasato's cat.

 

Mimi Chen

Mimi is Graduate Programs Manager Ben Chen's cat. Mimi only drinks fresh water from the shower.
 

 

Yogi and Sheru

Yogi (left) and Sheru (right) are PhD student Devyani McLaren's dogs. Sheru is Yogi's father!

 

 

Pigeon

Pigeon is Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Fellow Prajeet Bajpai's cat. Pigeon loves to chirp and trill when she's happy.
 

 

MoMo

MoMo is Master's student Shenran Wang's cat.

 

Olive

Olive is Assistant Professor Serena Wang's cat. 

 

Dexter White

Dexter, nephew of PhD student Vivian White, visits UBC campus frequently. You can spot two pictures of him on the dog wall of the Great Dane coffee shop!

 

Spike

Spike is Master's student Amman Yusuf's cat. 

 

Paperclip

Paperclip is Master's student Andrew Leach's tortoise. Paperclip is a 10 year old Sulcata who loves to adventure - especially surprise visits to the neighbors' gardens!

 

Flopsy Jellybean Xerxon

Flopsy Jellybean Xerxon, also known is Flopsy, is Professor Rachel Pottinger and Professor of Teaching Steve Wolfman's cat. Flopsy's favourite thing in the whole world is food. She would like her humans to tell you that she has never been fed. Ever. So she would like you to get on that right now.

 

Gideon "Griddle" Bonkers Xerxon

Gideon Bonkers Xerxon, also known as Griddle, is Professor Rachel Pottinger and Professor of Teaching Steve Wolfman's cat. Griddle is sitting in her smacking box. If you come near her while she is in her smacking box, you *will* be smacked. She loves it!

 

Pudding

Pudding is PhD student Xuechun Cao's dog. 

 

Blue

Blue is Associate Professor of Teaching Giulia Toti's cat. Blue has learned to give high-fives in exchange for treats.

 

Gimli

Gimli is Professor Nick Harvey's dog. Gimli likes to hold people's hands (ideally both of them).

 

Sumi

Sumi is PhD student Paulette Koronkevich's cat. Sumi love strawberries!

 

Paisley

Paisley is Undergraduate Program Advisor Celine Francis' dog. Treats are definitely the way to Paisley's heart — she’ll perk up instantly at the slightest crinkle of a snack bag. While she may not be the biggest fan of pets or cuddles, she shows her love in her own unique way, often by staying close and keeping a watchful, gentle presence.

 

Mimi and Nala

Mimi (left) and Nala (right) are Course Coordinator Jessie Pan's cats. Mimi is a Munchkin mix, but her short legs produce no shortage of biscuits. Don't worry, she's always wearing gloves! Nala, her younger sister, is a grass gourmand and hair-tie hoarder (despite being a British/Shorthair mix). 

 

Kili

Kili is Associate Professor of Teaching & MDS Stream Director Varada Kolhatkar's cat. Kili has a cute little ritual — doing a small dance before drinking water.
