Dr. Cristina Conati has been elected as a Fellow of AAAI
Dr. Cristina Conati, a professor in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC) has been elected as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).
The Committee stated that Dr. Conati’s record of influential research contributions and service to the AI community is very impressive.
Meredith Ellison, Executive Director of AAAI said that Fellows like Cristina “exemplify the diversity of research and the intellectual depth of the AI community.”
Cristina's research is at is at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, and Cognitive Science, with a goal of creating AI systems that perform useful tasks, while being well-accepted by users. A key aspect of Cristina's efforts is to enable AI systems to predict and monitor relevant properties of their users (e.g., states, skills, needs, emotions) and personalize the interaction accordingly, while maximizing both task performance and user satisfaction. Toward this goal, Cristina is especially interested in investigating how to enable AI technology in such a way that it strikes the right balance between providing accurate predictions and decision-making while maintaining transparency, user control, and trust.
AAAI will celebrate the newly elected Fellows at the AAAI-24 awards ceremony on Saturday, February 24th in UBC’s hometown: Vancouver, British Columbia.
An announcement from AAAI said this about Cristina receiving the award: "For significant contributions to human-centered AI and AI-driven personalization, particularly for intelligent tutoring systems and visualization."
Congratulations on this well-deserved honour, Cristina!
