Zite - LCI Spin-Off Acquired by CNN

Zite, a Vancouver startup that produces a "personalized magazine" for the iPad, has been acquired by CNN. According to CNN’s general manager of digital, KC Estenson: "We saw in Zite a best-in-class product. It’s deeply loved by the people who have it, and we thought it would be a nice addition to our digital portfolio. Secondly, there’s great technology behind it. We’re seeing a lot of interest in this space now, but these guys have been working on this for six years." Zite was developed by a team with strong ties to UBC: Zite's founder, a UBC law school graduate (Ali Davar), several UBC CS graduates (notably Mike Klaas, Dima Brodsky, Eric Brochu, and Chris Nell), a small team of Vancouver developers (notably Ben Frederickson and Pooya Karimian), two UBC CS faculty advisors (Kevin Leyton-Brown and Nando de Freitas), and a Silicon Valley-based CEO (Mark Johnson).
