UBC Computer Science students Tanha Kabir and Karan Grover, together with team members YK Sugishita and Jonathan Ho, won first place at the Ericsson Global Technology Competition.  The UBC team received the Ericsson Innovation Award, which comes with a 25,000 euros prize.  The team's software application, SoundVision, converts 3D spatial information into sounds, which could be used to assist visually impaired people to understand their surrounding environment.  A panel of judges, including experts from Ericsson and Google, chose the UBC team among 843 teams from 72 countries, and praised SoundVision for helping to "create truly inclusive cities where every citizen is empowered."  The competition took place on May 27, 2016, in Stockholm, Sweden.
