CS Alumnus Peter Smith Wins UBC Alumni Builder Award

CS alumnus Peter Smith is the recipient of the 2019 UBC Alumni Builder Award.  The Alumni Builder Award recognizes a cross section of alumni representing all faculties who have significantly contributed to UBC and enriched the lives of others, and in doing so, have supported UBC’s mission of realizing the promise of a global community with shared ambition for a better world and an exceptional UBC.

Peter received his PhD from UBC Computer Science in 1998 and is currently a Principal Software Engineer in Research at Galvanize.  Peter spearheaded the Computer Science Alumni/Industry Lecture Series 10 years ago, and has served as an industry mentor in the Computer Science Tri-mentoring Program for the past 14 years, giving career guidance to graduate and undergraduate students in the department.  

The 2019 UBC Alumni Builder Award recognizes his long record of volunteerism with the Department of Computer Science and for his continuous advocacy and support of fostering connections and opportunities for intellectual growth within the CS alumni community.

In the words of Computer Science Department Head Chen Greif, 'Peter is incredibly passionate about our department and UBC, and it is a pleasure to be able to recognize his wonderful contributions'.
