CS Professor Reid Holmes Receives CS-Can/Info-Can Outstanding Young Computer Science Research Prize

Congratulations to Computer Science Associate Professor Reid Holmes, who has been awarded a CS-Can/Info-Can Outstanding Young Computer Science Researcher prize for 2017. The Outstanding Young Computer Science Researcher prize recognizes young computer science faculty members at Canadian universities within 10 years of their Ph.D. who have made highly significant contributions in their careers, particularly to research.

Reid's research investigates new techniques for helping developers more effectively understand and evolve their programs. This work aims to decrease the costs associated with building software systems while also increasing their overall reliability. Reid has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers and has been awarded four ACM Distinguished Paper awards at the top two Software Engineering conferences. He frequently serves on international program committees and is an Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Software Engineering. Reid and his seven students are active members of the Software Practices Lab.

Locally, Reid is active within the department. He recently completed modernizing our third year Software Engineering course to more closely match the needs of modern industry and has also adapted a version of this course to run online as part of the edX platform. He has also been actively working on new systems to help scale our undergraduate courses with new tools for automatically validating student assignments.
