Math 200, Section 102

This page concerns Math 200, Section 102, for Winter 2015 Term 1 (i.e., Fall 2015). The dates of exams, once announced, will not change; all other dates, homeworks, etc. are subject to change.

Here is the Math 200 webpage common to all sections.

Materials here may contain errors; some corrections might only be announced in class.

Recent News Here are solutions to the second midterm; the median was a 14 out of 21.
Black Board Scans On September 14 we began experimenting with technology that allows me to write on the overhead projectors and to (relatively) quickly thereafter post PDFs of what I wrote. 2015_09_14.pdf, 2015_09_16.pdf, 2015_09_18.pdf. 2015_09_21.pdf, 2015_09_23.pdf, 2015_09_25.pdf, 2015_09_28.pdf, 2015_09_30.pdf, 2015_10_02.pdf, 2015_10_05.pdf, 2015_10_07.pdf, 2015_10_14.pdf, 2015_10_16.pdf, 2015_10_19.pdf, 2015_10_21.pdf, 2015_10_23.pdf, 2015_10_26.pdf, 2015_10_28.pdf, 2015_10_30.pdf, 2015_11_02.pdf, 2015_11_04.pdf, 2015_11_06.pdf, 2015_11_09.pdf, 2015_11_16.pdf, 2015_11_18.pdf, 2015_11_20.pdf, 2015_11_23.pdf, 2015_11_25.pdf, 2015_11_27.pdf, 2015_11_30.pdf, 2015_12_02.pdf, 2015_12_04.pdf. Midterms The midterms for the course were given during class hours on Friday, October 9 and Friday, November 13. Here are solutions to the second midterm, and solutions to the first midterm.
Skeletal blog Here is a general skeletal blog for this section. This will show where we are in the text, and list some of the key points, terminology, etc. It is skeletal--just a bare outline--since we will follow the textbook and supplemental materials very closely.
Homework No late homework accepted. Your lowest three homework set grades will be dropped from the overall homework computation.

All Homework: Exactly as described on the Math 200 common webpage.
Office Hours Office hours for the week of Dec 14-18: Tuesday, Dec 15: 9-10:15am; Wednesday, Dec 16: 9-10:30am; all in Mathematics Building, room 210.
Modifications to Textbook Coverage The following is SUBJECT TO CHANGE as the course progresses. Note that "optional" and "omitted" material may help you understand the examinable material (but won't appear on the exam).
  1. Chapter 12 and 10.5:
    1. Omitted from 12.3: Direction Angles and Direction Cosines. Scalar projection of b onto a (also called the "component of b along a"). However, you still need to know "vector projection of b onto a." However, the magnitude of "vector projection," which is the absolute value of the "scalar projection," can be used in some of the problems in 12.5.
    Other modifications to be announced.
  2. Chapter 14: 14.2 is entirely omitted; other modifications to be announced.
  3. Chapter 15 and 10.3:
    1. 15.5: We cover: mass and centre of mass. We omit: moments of inertia and probability density functions.
    2. 15.6 entirely omitted.
Formula Sheet The following formula sheet is a work in progress, subject to change. These formulas will be provided to you with my midterms. It is likely that most of them will be provided with the final exam.
