Marking scheme:
Participation will
be assessed each seminar day — i.e., the first day of each week. The average value of the highest 8
marks for each student will be used as the participation mark.
Participation in each seminar is marked as follows:
Questions Asked (5
marks):
Students must hand in a set of 5 questions about the material being
covered that day. This should be
done in the form of a hardcopy, which is to be handed in at the beginning of
the seminar.
Questions drawn at random from the set may be used during the discussion
part of the seminar.
Note: If the student cannot attend the class, the
questions can be sent to me via email. However, they will be accepted only if
they arrive before the beginning of the seminar.
Contribution
to Discussion (5 marks):
Students
are expected to contribute to the discussions of the seminar topic—asking
questions, raising concerns, expressing opinions, etc. Full contribution will be given a mark
of 5; no contribution will be given a mark of 0.
Reports form 30% of the total mark of the
course. Reports must have the
appropriate format.
A final exam forms 30% of the total mark of the course.
