We are reading this paper because it gives a good overview of what kinds of processes use OLAP, warehouses, and decision support in general. Read the rest of the paper, but it's fine to just skim sections 3 and 4.

Data Cube: A Relational Aggregation Operator Generalizing Group-By, Cross-Tab, and Sub-Totals Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, 1997. We are reading this paper because it gives a good example if not the best example of how OLAP differs from traditional data processing. Read the whole paper, though you can skip sections 1.2, 3.1, 3.2, 4, and 5.
