Educational Leadership

An African proverb says, “Even the best dancer on the stage must retire sometime.” While I am far from retirement, I believe my impact as a leader is tied to the dancing skills of those poised to take my place. My educational leadership mission is to identify and address barriers that impede learning and cultivate spaces for educators to exchange knowledge. This mission is built upon the foundation of my teaching philosophy and is enacted in four approaches: inquire, improve, involve, and impart.

  • I first INQUIRE about the challenges, processes and norms before I choose to improve them.
  • I use evidence-based practices to IMPROVE students' learning outcomes by providing support structures.
  • I seek to INVOLVE others by creating spaces so faculty can connect and share teaching practices.
  • I actively seek out opportunities to IMPART the knowledge I have gained to others.
