2006/01/12: Final grades for WMST 201 have now been approved and submitted.
2005/12/25:
  • Grades for projects are now available on WebCT.
  • Final grades for CPSC 101 students have been submitted.
  • Final grades for WMST 201 need to be approved by the Associate Dean of Arts and will (hopefully) be submitted by 15 January.

  • 2005/12/11: Just to make sure everyone finds their way to the exam room, here is detailed information on how to find the CHBE building (also known as CHMB).
    2005/12/07: Some slides from 'Computers and Music (1)' have been corrected (see class schedule). Please note that in the illustrations of digitising a sound wave, the blue and white bands correspond to the pressure levels (i.e., bit values) on the vertical axis. I recommend you also read p.311-315 in the text (Ch.10).

  • The final exam has been scheduled for 15 Dec, 12:00 noon - 14:30 in CHBE 101 - good luck with your preparations & other exams!

  • Reminder: Project final reports are due on Fri, 25 November, 18:00 (see Information on course projects for details). Post a link to your final report and to all project materials on your course web page and submit the URL of your web page via e-mail to Holger and the lab TAs.
  • Project presentations are during normal lab times in the week of 28 November; every group has 10min presentation time. Make sure you have your presentation time booked with your lab TAs; if want to project slides from the laptop provided by the TAs, send the respective PDF (or, if absolutely unavoidable, PPT) file to the TAs at least 24h before your presentation.
  • Slides for the Friday lecture are now available (see class schedule).

    2005/11/14: As mentioned previously in class, the scheme for determining final grades has been slightly modified to account for the fact that different from previous offerings of this course, we had only one midterm exam, but more quizzes. The revised scheme can be found under "Course Work and Exams" below.

  • Quiz 4 has been scheduled for Wed, 9 November (at the beginning of class); it will cover the "how computers work" module.
  • All labs except for the Friday lab will operate as usual; because of the holiday on Friday, students from the Friday lab may join other labs (for this week only).

  • The midterm exam has been scheduled for 28 October. It will be held during class, and the exam problems will be similar quiz questions. Sample questions will be posted next week. To prepare for the exam, study all materials from lectures, labs and assigned reading covered between the beginning of the course and the 21 October lecture (one week before the midterm).
  • There are no labs this week - use the time to review materials and for exam preparations.

  • 2005/09/16:
  • The quiz originally announced for next Wednesday has been rescheduled and will now be held during the first 10-15min of class on Friday, 23 Sep. Further information on quizzes will be given on Monday in class.
  • Next Monday's class will be about HTML; on Wednesday, we will review some of the networking / WWW material from this week lecture slides for both classes are now available (see lecture schedule). Please make sure to read all assigned material before class.

  • 2005/09/15: Holger got unexpectedly stuck in London, UK (due to a disruption in public transport while he was on his way to the airport), and won't be able to make it back to Vancouver in time for tomorrow's class; therefore, the class tomorrow (Fri, 16 September) is cancelled. All students should read the assigned reading (see course schedule) prior to the next class on Monday, 19 September.

  • The UBC Bookstore has informed me on Friday that the course textbooks have arrived. However, this shipment has only 60 copies - additional copies are on the way, but if you want to be sure to get one, I'd recommend to visit the bookstore as soon as possible.
  • Labs are starting Monday, 12 Sep, and are held in ICCS X050. Please make sure to attend the lab you are registered for. Lab information is now available here (see also "Course Schedule").
