June 2006 First workshop paper Ubisys 2006 (submitted) Get feedback on direction

September 2006

  • Workshop or Conference paper
  • Title Idea: "Toward Wide Area Interaction with Ubiquitous Computing Environments"
  • Longer version of existing paper describing model and API for UIF in more detail, sample application with some simulated components, use of reasoning, incorporate feedback from UbiSys reviewers in July.
  • Note: main issue here will be that it may still be weak on evaluation/experience
  • Target: Can target PerWare workshop or Percom 2007

March 2007

  • Conference Paper
  • Title Idea: Platform for wide area/public ubicomp environments (or something like this)
  • "Top down" (application->UIF middleware) evaluation of system with at least 2 sample applications where it makes sense to access the ubicomp environment across domains such as public environments, remote access to private ones.
  • Note: this would ensure we can build a variety of apps with model and API. Drill down somewhat on wide area and larger scale issues (security, scale) and aspects of UIF design.
  • Target: Ubicomp 2007 or similar

September 2007

  • Conference Paper
  • Title Idea: Integration between Ubicomp Environments (or something similar)
  • "Bottom up" evaluation (existing ubicomp system->UIF) showing how model and UIF supports adaptation to existing systems by creating adapters for at least 2 systems.
  • Note: from feedback on work so far, this seems interesting to readers, but want to take this on after I have made sure model and API are right by building more apps (previous milestone). One issue is that this likely work that will not be used much since these systems are not widely deployed but if we set one of the systems up in the lab it may be useful.
  • Target: Percom 2008 or similar spring conference

March 2008

  • Conference Paper
  • Title Idea: Common abstractions for wide area access to ubicomp environments
  • This paper could form most of the conclusion of my thesis. I could refer to experience from previous work and provide an overview of the abstractions, where they were useful, lessons learned and future work.
  • Target: Ubicomp 2008
