The general topic of investigation is the subjective and aesthetic impact of multimodal and in particular haptic feedback when incorporated into embedded manual controls. For example, we are interested in changes in the user's sense of security, confidence, and aesthetic preference as compared to the same parameters when using non-multimodal interfaces. This is in contrast to a study of performance factors that are more easily measured quantitatively - e.g. speed of operation, number of errors, performance impact on primary driving task, etc.
