GIRLsmarts4tech Workshop Showcase 2026: Saturday

Join us for a weekend of brand new GIRLsmarts4tech workshops! This registration is for our Saturday program: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things. If you're looking for our Sunday program, you can find it down the page. No experience needed - feel free to sign up for both days!

For our Saturday program, students will be participating in both of the following workshops:

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Even if we do not recognize it, we use Artificial Intelligence every day, from getting directions on Google Maps to using auto-correct when texting. But what are the core processes that enable AI to accomplish these things? Throughout this introductory workshop, students will grasp the basics of AI and Machine Learning. They will discover exactly how machines can be “intelligent” through games and activities like training their own AI models. Working together to analyze their models, students will also explore ethical considerations in Machine Learning and recognize how biases in people and data shape AI. By the end of this workshop, students will have a well-rounded understanding of how AI works and its role in their daily lives!

  • Exploring IoT with Raspberry Pi

Have you ever wondered how smart home devices came to exist and how these devices “talk” to each other seamlessly? The answer lies in IoT - or “Internet of Things” - which allows us to connect everyday appliances to the Internet, and is one of the most important technologies of the 21st century. This workshop delves into the building blocks of IoT by using Raspberry Pi - a simple computer that can fit into the palm of your hand! Students will learn to use sensors with the mini-computers provided and analyze data using scratch coding. Through engaging activities like implementing their own traffic lights, students will develop a first-hand understanding of the implications of IoT and the real-world applications of technology.

** Lunch will be provided. If you have special dietary concerns please let us know and arrange to bring your own.
***To allow our workshop to be accessible to as many youth as possible, GIRLsmarts4tech offers bursaries to cover our registration fee. Please check the Bursaries option in our registration form if you require a bursary.

GIRLsmarts4tech Workshop Showcase 2026: Sunday

Join us for a weekend of GIRLsmarts4tech workshops! This registration is for our Sunday program: Robotics and Web Development. If you're looking for our Saturday program, you can find it above. No experience needed - feel free to sign up for both days!

For our Sunday program, students will be participating in both of the following workshops:

  • Robotics

Robots are all around us, from automated vacuum cleaners to robotic arms in factories—but how do they actually work? In this hands-on workshop, students will dive into the world of robotics with the small but mighty Sphero bots. They’ll explore how robots receive and interpret instructions, experiment with programming their own bot, and tackle real-time debugging challenges. By engaging in interactive activities, students will develop problem-solving skills and gain a deeper understanding of how robotics is shaping the future. Participants will see firsthand how coding and robotics come together in exciting ways.

  • Web Development: Code your own website!

The websites we visit every day are built using just a few key technologies—but how do they come to life? In this hands-on workshop, students will dive into the fundamentals of web development by creating their own website from scratch using HTML and CSS. They’ll explore how their favorite sites structure text, images, and layouts, gaining a deeper understanding of how the web is designed. Through interactive lessons and guided practice, students will build essential coding skills and bring their ideas to life on the screen. By the end of the session, they’ll have a solid foundation to start their journey as web developers, ready to craft their own digital creations.

** Lunch will be provided. If you have special dietary concerns please let us know and arrange to bring your own.
