Remember that one time you maybe read about Doki Doki Literature Club, the famous horror game presented as a dating sim? Remember that slideshow karaoke we did where we used old slides saying what a dating sim was? No idea what I'm on about? Come see 1-2 slides on what a dating simulator is, then learn about a collection of unusual takes on the genre. There's a really diverse set: KFC promotional material, a political thriller hidden behind a game where you date birds (pigeon, rock dove ... actual birds), goofy dates with zombies/vampires/etc, ace representation, flirting with your refrigerator (and other household appliances), hip-thrusting various types of chair (no I didn't write the same game twice), and dating Cthulu-chan (the one from the title). Content warning: a good % of dating sims are adult media. While that is not true of any game I am describing, that context will get mentioned sometimes to comment on how "normal" dating sim concepts are subverted. The slides have game artwork w/ some revealing clothing. I also reference some psychological horror games with the usual self-harm / psychological distress references.
