Abstract
Have you ever wondered what an olive really is? Where do they grow? What do they grow on? How many kinds of olive plants are there? Are they a fruit or a vegetable? Olives don't seem to fit into any category; yet, everyone loves olives (some people just don’t know it yet). Every bite bursts with flavour from their sweet, salty, tangy and bitter taste. In this talk we answer all of these questions and more, reviewing the history of olive cultivation dating back 8000 years when they were first cultivated by the Assyrians, up to the modern American "Kraft Singles of the olive world": the canned "black-ripe" olives. Enjoy a few free olives to exlpore some of the many varieties of olive!
