Abstract
If you’re anything like me, you use the internet not just as a useful source of information, but also as a source of lulz. Lulz are often spread virally in the form of memes. But where do they come from? Why are they funny? How do they spread and evolve? I will delve into the world of memes including their common features and mysterious origins, and of course, examples of the most successful of *in*ternet jokes (in jokes + internet, get it?). From Lolcats to 4 panes, from C-C-C-C-Combos to Xzibit, you’ll understand what people on 4chan were laughing about 5 years ago. Why should you listen to this presentation, you might ask…. I say, do it for the lulz.
