Typically, student volunteer registration opens soon after general conference registration (normally early December). Please register as a student volunteer before you register for the conference so that you can register for the conference with the volunteer rate. However, you should know that you are coming to the conference so we can count on you being able to volunteer and you will need to register for the conference, too.
Visit this site and click on the "Student Registration" link. You will then be asked basic information to create an account. Once you have an account and log in, more options will appear. You need to complete the personal information form at this time. You do not have a slot for volunteering until you complete this step. By late January you need to complete the link to tell us when you can work. We ask you to do this as early as you can. You can change your input until we do the scheduling. We understand that you may not know your travel plans until a later time so we allow you to complete this step later. Note you will be removed as a volunteer if you don't complete this step before scheduling begins.
On the first form you should enter the first and last available time you will be at the convention center. For example, if you arrive at 9:00 am on Wednesday by plane, you might not be at the convention center until 11:30 (this is just an example, you need to consider local travel). If there is a time slot of 10:25-12:00 and 12:00-1:30, you should mark the 12:00-1:30 time slot. This is because you cannot be present at the start of the time slot starting at 10:25. For departure, you need to make sure the time slot ends before you need to leave. Try to be a little conservative to plan for travel delays. On the later form, you need to indicate any time slots that you cannot work in. For example, you might want to attend a specific session or you might be involved in a certain activity. As with above, you need to note any time slot that overlaps the time you are not available even if you would only miss a few minutes. It is important that you be available for the full time of each slot you indicate. If you are local then you can mark the first date/time and last day/time you are available. Then on the second page you can eliminate times on each day.
Yes. We need help on Tuesday to get organized and on Wednesday for early events and organization/registration. These are often when the fewest students are around. Note that by working then you complete hours when you won't have conflicts with other events. This is often a great option for local people but anyone is encouraged to be available then. Another time that is somewhat harder is on Saturday, esp. in the afternoon.
Yes. You can log into the system at any time. Once logged in, you can view/edit your information and view your work schedule (once we complete scheduling). Note you cannot change your available times once we lock the system for scheduling. We also wipe the system after the conference. This means you need to reenter information each year if you decide to volunteer again.
We appreciate your notifying us as soon as possible. It helps us plan and allows others to take your place. Note that canceling after we begin scheduling is significantly harder on us. Also, if you do not show up at the conference or cancel at the last minute for no apparent reason (we do understand about emergencies and travel issues), we may contact your school to inform them of the situation. You should email us at the address stated above if you wish to cancel your volunteer slot. If you change your mind after canceling and do want to volunteer, you will need to begin the registration process from scratch.
We take volunteers on a rolling basis. We like to accommodate everyone interested. At times we might exceed the number needed. In that case we will close registration. This has not happened until January and often never happens. You can still contact us to express your interest and we will place you on a waiting list. You can also visit us at the conference to see if we can take more volunteers but we cannot make any promises in this case.

We will create student schedules during February based on your input. We promise not to schedule you at a time that you entered will not work for you. Note you are expected to be honest and indicate all times you can work, including ones that you may not like. You probably won't get it anyway. Once schedules are set we will notify you and they are available from this site via your login.
It can be complicated and time consuming to modify your schedule. That is why we ask you to complete a form indicating when you will be available. We will try to accommodate requests but cannot make guarantees. If you cannot work your hours then we cannot give you a refund for your registration.
Once the schedule is set, we know what you will be doing. We will then provide directions for you. These may come in advance and/or be given at the conference. All student volunteers should come to the student volunteer room when they arrive at the conference. This allows us to know you have arrived and also gives us a chance to touch base. You can also get the very cool T-shirt at that time!
