What Goes Around...
For today's class, we will be reading two papers:
-
Michael Stonebraker Joseph M. Hellerstein: What Goes Around Comes
Around. Readings in Database Systems, Fourth Edition Morgan Kaufmann
2005. We're reading this paper because it gives a good summary of
what's happened to data models in databases over the first 40 years.
-
Stonebraker, Michael, and Andrew Pavlo. what
Goes Around Comes Around... And Around.... ACM Sigmod Record
53.2 (2024): 21-37. We're reading this because it covers the next 20
years (which is
approximately as long as
I've been teaching this
class so far. Oy).
This is a straightforward paper to read, so no special reading
strategies are required.
