For today's class, we will be reading these papers:
- Noy, Natalya F. "Semantic
integration: a survey of ontology-based approaches." ACM Sigmod
Record 33.4 (2004): 65-70.. We are reading this paper because it
gives a good basic understanding of what ontologies are and why they
are useful in databases. Read the intro, just skim the rest. No need
to do a response for this one.
-
Buron, M., Goasdoué, F., Manolescu, I. and Mugnier, M.L.,
2020. Obi-Wan: ontology-based RDF integration of heterogeneous
data. Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment, 13(12), pp.2933-2936.
Note that this paper is pretty dense, since it's a system
demonstration explanation. You may find it helpful to
look
at the
long version, but you don't have to.
It will be helpful to understand what RDF is and
how it relates to an ontology. I recommend this
reference: http://webdam.inria.fr/Jorge/html/wdmch8.html. Just
skim what you need. Stop after section 7.3.3 for sure.
