CPSC 304
Policies
Late Assignment/Project Policy
Late assignments/project submissions will not be accepted, except in special circumstances (illness
or severe personal/family problems), in which case the student has to contact
the instructor.
Academic Conduct
Submitting the work of another person as your own (i.e. plagiarism)
constitutes academic misconduct, as does communication with others
(either as donor or recipient) in ways other than those permitted
for assignments, project, quizzes/tests, and exams. Such actions will not be
tolerated. Specifically, for this course, the rules are as
follows:
- The project and the assignments are to be done alone or in a group as it is specified by
their descriptions. You (or your group) may not, under any
circumstances, submit any work not written by yourself (or the members of
the group), use
another student's work (this includes work from assignments/project
completed in the past), or previous sample solutions, and you may
not share your own work with others (outside your group). There is one exception: you
may build your solutions on examples made available by the
instructor or the TAs. All work for this course is required to be new work
and cannot have been previously submitted to any other course nor
can the work be submitted as part of an assignment in another course
without the approval of all instructors involved.
- You may, however, and are in fact encouraged to,
discuss the approach you used to solve a particular
problem with your fellow students (other than those in your group), but
you may not take any record away from such discussion. (So, erase all
whiteboards, delete all e-mail, recycle all paper, etc.).
- You must spend at least an hour after the discussion and before working
on your own submission doing something that is completely different than the
assignment/project work (i.e. watching television ).
- You must acknowledge everyone with whom you had substantial discussions
on your submission. You can not, without prior approval by the instructor,
discuss the assignments/project with anyone other than your instructor, TAs and
current CPSC 304 students.
Violations of these rules constitute very serious academic
misconduct, and they are subject to penalties ranging from a grade
of zero on a particular assignment to indefinite suspension from
the University. More information on procedures and penalties can
be found in the
Department's
Policy on Plagiarism and collaboration and in the University
Calendar. If you are in any doubt about the interpretation of any
of these rules, consult the instructor or a TA!
Additional Department and University Policies
In addition to policies on academic conduct there are additional
department and university policies that members of the university
community are required to adhere to. Links to descriptions of some of these
policies can be on the
Department's
Policies page. You should also consult the
UBC calendar for University wide polices.
