¡°Digital Media: The Butterfly Grid¡±

Summary

This paper proposes a project called ¡°The Butterfly Grid¡± and it is the first system to distribute the processing of MMGs across a multicast network of server, allowing the most efficient utilization of computing resources for the high-performance 3D immersive game-worlds. By using grid computing model, it can support unlimited number of user within one persistent-state world securely.

Discussion

      1.      Is this system really ¡°absolutely secure¡±?

There is nothing that is absolutely secure. However, the butterfly grid utilizes several security protocols, including a 128-bit session message digest that can only be generated by an authentic client. Rules enforcement is handled on the server, ensuring that players do not cheat with hacked clients.

2.  Are there any popular games built on this platform?

¡°Glympse¡±,¡°Vibeforce¡±, ¡°Nemitasia¡±, ¡°Exyst¡±, ¡°Star Net Frontier¡± etc. Hopefully, there will be more soon.

      3.      How would the butterfly grid guarantee the reliability of all the gateway servers?

Good point, actually, this paper didn¡¯t mention how to secure the reliability of gateway servers but since the gateway server simply work as a proxy, it doesn¡¯t have a heavy workload, compare with the game server. So, this problem shouldn¡¯t be a big issue of this system.
