When
you are not in charge of a paper for that particular day
- To provide good ground for the discussion,
participants must :
- send (at least 3) questions
on each assigned reading to the class piazza discussion
forum by 6pm of
the day before the class. Tag your question with the corresponding paper id
e.g., 21-1 ( lecture number followed by -1 or -2)
- Clarification
questions are welcome,
but
participants should also try
to ask questions that address weaknesses in the presented research,
that
relate the research to general issues in the field or that make
connections/comparisons with topics covered in class.
- hand in
a brief summary of each reading in class (no more than one page each). The
paper summary should address the
following points.
- Beside improving participation to the
discussion, the objective
of
this activity is to help participants learn how to read papers with
a critical eye, as a reviewer for a conference or journal would do. For more info on how to read a research paper, make sure you
*carefully*
read this detailed instructions.
- In addition to the quality of
the
summary/questions,
punctuality
in submitting them will be taken into account for marking.
When the paper is
assigned to you
You
are required to present the
paper in class and to lead the
discussion. We'll have 35min for each paper, 20 min. for the
presentation and 15 min. for discussion (the two can mix)
In the presentation you have to:
-
Summarize the paper.
Make connections/comparisons with topics covered in class (you can reuse
modify slides I used in my lectures). Cover any algorithm/technique used in
the paper that we did not cover in the lectures (or we did not cover enough
to understand the paper). If appropriate, relate the research general issues
in the AI. .
-
Structure
and propose answers to what you think are the most interesting questions posed by the rest of the
class.
If you want to use powerpoint and you do not have your own laptop, just send me your
presentation at least 45min before class.
