422 Readings: what to do
In 422, I will present 3-4 research papers in class (see course schedule for details)
To provide good ground for the discussion, you must also :
at least 3 questions on the assigned paper (Clarification questions are welcome, but participants should also try to ask questions that address weaknesses in the presented research, that relate the research to general issues in the field or that make connections/comparisons with topics covered in class.)
a brief summary of the assigned paper (no more than half a page). The paper summary should address the following points
What are motivations for this work?
What is the proposed solution? its strengths? its weaknesses?
Has the proposed solution been evaluated, and if so how ?
What are the contributions of this work?
Beside improving participation to the discussion, the objective of this activity is to help participants learn how to read papers with a critical eye, as a reviewer for a conference or journal would do. For more info on how to read a research paper, make sure you *carefully* read this detailed instructions.
In addition to the quality of the summary/questions, punctuality in submitting them will be taken into account for marking.
