Dr. Cristina Conati named 2025 ACM Fellow
UBC Computer Science Professor Cristina Conati recognized for her remarkable contributions to computing science and technology
UBC Computer Science Professor Cristina Conati has been named a 2025 Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Fellow, one of the most prestigious honours in the computing field. Dr. Conati is recognized for her “contributions to research in Human-AI interaction and AI-driven personalization.”
She is among 71 Fellows who were selected this year by their peers for their notable technical innovations and service. ACM Fellows represent the top 1% of their members who have outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology.
Dr. Conati’s research is at the intersection of artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, and cognitive science, with the overarching goal to support human-AI collaboration via trustworthy AI systems that can understand relevant properties of their users (e.g., states, skills, needs) and personalize the interaction accordingly, in a manner that preserves transparency and user control.
Her research has had significant contributions in the fields of intelligent tutoring systems, affective computing, information visualization and explainable AI, with over 130 peer-reviewed publications and numerous Best Paper Awards. Dr. Conati also received the UBC Killam Research Prize in 2022 and a Research Award from the Humboldt Foundation in 2024. She was elected as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) in 2024 and is an Editor-In-Chief for the Journal of AI in Education.
