Field Measurement System (FMS)

The FMS is a collection of sensors for measuring the light and sound fields around the test object. The sensors (i.e., cameras and microphones) are positioned with a 5-DOF gantry robot which we designed and built for ACME.

The FMS contains a high quality 3-CCD color video camera with computer controlled zoom and focus (Sony DXC 950), and a color Triclops trinocular stereo vision system; a microphone array and light sources are also planned.

Light field measurements can be used, for instance, to tabulate the BRDF (bi-directional reflectance distribution function) for rendering or simply to get images. Range measurements are used for building 3D geometric models. Sound fields can be used to build sound synthesis models.
