Abstract: Virtual marketplaces have become the preferred way to hire people online. But with a growing number of workers and occupations, the use of algorithms to match tasks and candidates is becoming necessary. Sihem Amer-Yahia will discuss how human factors affect algorithm design on virtual marketplaces, how an adaptive optimization accounts for evolving human factors, and other subjects including group affinity for collaborative tasks. The talk will conclude with a discussion on the need to study algorithmic fairness on virtual marketplaces.
