Alumnus joins U. Toronto faculty

Former postdoc Dr. José Zariffa will join the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Research Scientist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. Congratulations, José!

Alumnus wins Technical Oscar

Prof. Doug James (Cornell) will receive an Academy Award (Oscar) for Technical Achievement this year! Doug got his Ph.D. at UBC in 2001, supervised by Prof. Dinesh Pai.

Martin Lesmana wins best AI Masters Thesis award

Lesmana's M.Sc. thesis "Biologically Motivated Controllers for Robotic Eyes" won the CAIAC 2012 Master’s Thesis Award at the 25th annual meeting of the Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence.

Two papers to be presented at SIGGRAPH 2012

Keynote address at I3D

Dinesh Pai gave the keynote address at the 2012 ACM SIGGRAPH Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics and Games (I3D). I3D is the leading conference for real time 3D computer graphics and human interaction, now in its 26th year.

A startling new twist on muscle

Ph.D. student Sang Hoon Yeo and Professor Dinesh K. Pai, in collaboration with biologists in the US, shed new light on a long standing problem in biology: how our muscles actually work.

Four papers to be presented at SIGGRAPH 2011! 

Members of the Sensorimotor Systems Lab had three SIGGRAPH papers accepted this year, and one more paper in ACM Transactions on Graphics, all of which will be presented at SIGGRAPH. UBC CS as a whole had a phenomenal year at SIGGRAPH too, with 8 SIGGRAPH papers, nearly 10 percent of the total.
