Abstract
Ever wonder why songs sound “louder” on the radio? Or why newer music is always louder than older music? The reason is “The Loudness Wars”. In fact, the music you are listening to is almost certainly not mastered with anything other than loudness in mind, at the expense everything else, including sound quality. The Loudness Wars is a term used to refer to the change in mastering techniques with the advent of CDs as the primary means of listening to music. Never heard of this before? No idea what “mastering” is? Come to the 8th floor at 5:30 and find out.
