Abstract
If you’ve ever voted in Canada you’ll probably agree it is a very frustrating experience. Our system of choosing the candidate with the most votes regardless of how many votes they receive guarantees a lot of voters will be unhappy with the results. And thats beside the point we usually aren’t happy with the choices in the first place. How can we change this and yet keep a stable democracy? I will compare the system we currently use to vote in Canada to a some popular proportional systems used around the world and to the one being proposed in the upcoming referendum on May 12, BC-STV, which in opinion doesn’t suck nearly as much as other systems.
