By far the most scenic hiking in Ontario that
I've seen. The weather was great for this trip, and the bugs were only
bad at the end of the 3rd day. My companion on this trip was the ever smiling/singing Katie Stafford. This trip can certainly be done in less than 7 days, comfortably. Most fit backpackers could do it in 5 days, as long as they don't have knee problems. |
| Day 1 |
Arrived at the part at about
10am and registered. The staff told us that we were high risk because
we planned to do the trip in 4 days instead of the recommended 7-10
days. Apparently we would have to pay for our own rescue if we got in
trouble. The hike on the first day was probably the most scenic, with views of Killarney's white quartz mountains and it's many lakes. We spend the night at H47 feasted on blueberries. |
| Day 2 |
Probably the best day. We had a
long lunch where we swam with our lunch to a small island. Many berry
breaks latter we came upon Little Mountain Lake, which was the most
beautiful lake I've seen in Ontario. It's a glacial blue colour and
surrounded by mountains, and we had it all to ourselves. |
| Day 3 |
Probably the worst day. It was
certainly the longest by far. We started hiking around 8:30 am and
finished by 8:30 pm. My mistake. The first part of the day was harder
than anticipated, causing Katie significant knee pain. However, it did
have its highlights. We came upon a pair of moose who were feeding in a
lily-filled part of the lake. We also had a mini-adventure by crossing
a river that had no bridge (well, it did on a 5 km detour that the park
failed to mention beforehand). At the end of the day we were swarmed by
misquitos, and we almost broke into a run to get to our sight. Luckily
the lake had few misquitos, although it did have a curious beaver. |
| Day 4 |
The last day was not very
scenic, and we finished around noon. |
