COVID Policies

For our in-person meetings in this class, it is important that all of us feel as comfortable as possible engaging in class activities while sharing an indoor space. Non-medical masks that cover our noses and mouths are a primary tool to make it harder for Covid-19 to find a new host. Please wear a non-medical mask during our class meetings, for your own protection, and the safety and comfort of everyone else in the class. If you have not yet had a chance to get vaccinated against Covid-19, vaccines are available to you, free and on campus. The higher the rate of vaccination in our community overall, the lower the chance of spreading this virus. Please arrange to get vaccinated if you have not already done so.

Please, do not come to class if you are sick or even slightly unwell, have Covid symptoms, are waiting for a Covid test result, have recently tested positive for Covid, or were asked to quarantine. This precaution will help reduce risk and keep everyone safer. You can do a self-assessment for Covid symptoms here: https://bc.thrive.health/covid19/en.

If you do miss class because of any of the above let me (instructor) know ASAP so I can best support you. I anticipate to be able to record all lectures and post them online. You may also be able to join the class via zoom or other conference software (let me know if you need my help to set this up). Consult the class resources on Piazza and webpage for slides, recordings, and other materials.

If I (the instructor) am unwell I will not come to class. If that happens, either I will teach the class online via zoom, if I am well enought to do it, or the TA or another one of my senior PhD students will substitute. If the class moves online, you will receive an announcement on Piazza telling you how to join the class. You can anticipate that this would very likely be last minute. Our classroom will still be available for you to sit and attend an online session if one happens.
