XML
For today's class, we will be reading two papers:
- Shankar Pal, Istvan Cseri, Oliver Seeliger, Gideon Schaller, Leo
Giakoumakis, Vasili Zolotov. Indexing XML Data Stored in a Relational
Database. VLDB 2004. We are reading this paper because it
defines some of the difficulties in making use of XML be efficient.
-
Michael Stonebraker, Joseph M. Hellerstein: What Goes Around Comes
Around. (if that links fails, try this one) Readings in Database Systems, Fourth Edition Morgan Kaufmann
2005. We're reading this paper because it gives a good summary of
what's happened to data models in databases over the last 40 years,
which nicely caps our discussion of data models,
and provides an interesting counterpoint to the current discussion on XML.
