Testing Smalltalk Applications

Testing Smalltalk Applications

OOPSLA '95 Workshop
Monday October 16, 1995

Many organizations are jumping on the Smalltalk bandwagon, hoping to reap the many benefits ascribed to OOT and Smalltalk in particular. Those who have already worked hard to bring a product written in Smalltalk to successful release have been forced to come up with their own solutions for how to assure the quality of their product.

At a recent Smalltalk-centered conference, the total absence of presentations or workshops on the theme of testing Smalltalk applications was of concern to attendees. The scarcity of literature (particularly how-to information) and tools to support testing is disturbing, especially to organizations beginning a Smalltalk project.

Goals and Focus:

This workshop explored the particular challenges involved in testing Smalltalk applications. The workshop participants discussed successes that organizations have achieved in testing their Smalltalk applications, problems that they have encountered, and areas requiring better solutions. Participants also described testing approaches, demonstrated tools or frameworks developed to support testing, and discussed lessons learned from each other's successes and failures.

Workshop Report

A report on the workshop is under construction and will be available from this web page soon.
