Unsocialize: The Link Unsocializer
There are a number of "social reader" Facebook applications from publishers
such as Yahoo, The Guardian, Huffington Post, etc. When a friend who
has installed one of these apps reads an article, you often see something
like this:
Clicking the link will end up taking you someplace like this:
If you're like me, you explicitly don't want to authorize a third-party application to access
your basic information, and post similar items to your profile/timeline; you
just want to read the article.
Unsocialize is a browser extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
which provides a right-click
context menu item for taking you directly to the article, bypassing the
app install request and any other tracking information.
It works for various other types of links that redirect to
apps (e.g. Viddy videos, Mixcloud music links, etc.), and it even strips
click tracking metrics from regular links from Facebook to external content.
