In 422, I will present 3-4 research papers in class (see
course schedule for details)
- To provide good ground for the discussion, you
must also :
- Carefully read the paper before class
- Send (at least 3) questions on each
assigned paper by email to the
address
CPSC422.14@gmail.com
by 5pm of the day before
the class. The email subject should be <last name of the first
author - your name>
- Clarification questions are welcome, but
participants should also try to ask questions that address weaknesses in
the presented research, that relate the research to general issues in
the field or that make connections/comparisons with topics covered in
class.
- hand in a brief
summary of each paper in class (no more than half a page each). The
paper summary should address the following
points
- Beside improving participation to the discussion, the
objective of this activity is to help participants learn how to read papers
with a critical eye, as a reviewer for a conference or journal would do. For
more info on how to read a research paper, make sure you *carefully* read this
detailed instructions.
- In addition to the quality of the summary/questions,
punctuality in submitting them will be taken into account for marking.
