The Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia is located about 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver at the western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula.
All WCCCE events will be in the Hugh Dempster Pavilion (6245 Agronomy Road, Vancouver, BC) which is adjacent to the ICCS complex which houses the Department of Computer Science. Links to campus maps, transit, and detailed instructions on getting to UBC can be found at: https://www.cs.ubc.ca/our-department/contact-us.
The accommodation section provides instructions on using transit to get to UBC from the conference hotel. Once on campus see the UBC map below to locate the Hugh Dempster Pavilion (DMP) and its relative location to the transit bus loop and nearby parking locations. (Click on the link below the map to get a more detailed map along with detailed wayfinding instructions.) Parking is in the form of parkades, surface parking lots, and even street parking--all run by UBC Parking Services. Unfortunately, parking is considered an ancillary service and is not included in the conference registration. If you are faculty or staff at SFU or the University of Victoria your parking pass may be honoured at UBC. See: reciprocal parking agreement. When selecting a parking location note that Computer Science is located in the south part of campus.
The Holiday Inn on Broadway (note that there are several Holiday Inns in the Vancouver area) is offering a special conference rate on a block of rooms if booked before April 1st. The hotel's address is 711 West Broadway. This is just 3 blocks west of the Broadway/City Hall station on the Canada Line from the airport and is right on the #99 UBC express bus route.
The special rate on the block of rooms, if booked before April 1st is: $125 per night (plus taxes). Mention the "UBC - WCCCE 2012 Conference" to get this rate. The direct phone number for reservations is (604) 707-1939, and their e-mail address is info@hivancouver.com.
The #99 express bus boards very close to the Holiday Inn: board at Broadway & Willow on the north side of the street. Regular one-zone transit fares apply: $2.50. The final stop of the bus is at the UBC transit loop. From there, it is about a 12-minute walk to the Computer Science buildings (see below for a UBC map). On the way back to the Holiday Inn, you take the #99 bus, and get off near Broadway and Willow; it's the same stop as for the Vancouver General Hospital.
If you don't want to stay at the conference hotel, and are an employee of a BC publicly funded institution you should be eligible for the BC government hotel rates. See http://csa.pss.gov.bc.ca/businesstravel/ for a list of properties offering government rates.
If you have a vehicle, then any hotel in Vancouver or Richmond will be within a reasonable driving distance. You can use Google Maps to get directions from your hotel to UBC Computer Science.
If you are flying into Vancouver, and plan to take transit (recommended) from the airport to the conference hotel, there is a $5 Canada Line surcharge, but only when coming from the airport. Machines will accept cash or credit cards at the airport. When returning to the airport via Canada Line, it's just the standard two-zone $3.75 bus fare (early morning to 6:30 PM on Monday-Friday), but that rate drops to a one-zone fare of $2.50 on weekends and after 6:30 PM.
