Getting to the Conference Locations at UBC

The Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia is located about 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver at the western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula.

All WCCCE events will be in the Hugh Dempster Pavilion (6245 Agronomy Road, Vancouver, BC) which is adjacent to the ICCS complex which houses the Department of Computer Science. Links to campus maps, transit, and detailed instructions on getting to UBC can be found at: https://www.cs.ubc.ca/our-department/contact-us.

The accommodation section provides instructions on using transit to get to UBC from the conference hotel. Once on campus see the UBC map below to locate the Hugh Dempster Pavilion (DMP) and its relative location to the transit bus loop and nearby parking locations. (Click on the link below the map to get a more detailed map along with detailed wayfinding instructions.) Parking is in the form of parkades, surface parking lots, and even street parking--all run by UBC Parking Services. Unfortunately, parking is considered an ancillary service and is not included in the conference registration. If you are faculty or staff at SFU or the University of Victoria your parking pass may be honoured at UBC. See: reciprocal parking agreement. When selecting a parking location note that Computer Science is located in the south part of campus.

Vancouver Marathon Information

Please note that the Vancouver Marathon is on the same weekend as WCCCE (the marathon runs on May 6th), and attracts a large number of out-of-town guests; so, Vancouver hotels may fill quickly. Please book your room early.

Accommodations

There are many hotels in and around Vancouver. For convenient access to UBC, we recommend the West Coast Suites at UBC or the Holiday Inn-Vancouver Centre located on Broadway. Unfortunately, student housing is unavailable because WCCCE just happens to take place in the transition between terms. Other than the West Coast Suites, there are no hotels within walking distance of UBC.

Getting to UBC and the Conference Hotel

If you are flying into Vancouver, and plan to take transit (recommended) from the airport to the conference hotel, there is a $5 Canada Line surcharge, but only when coming from the airport. Machines will accept cash or credit cards at the airport. When returning to the airport via Canada Line, it's just the standard two-zone $3.75 bus fare (early morning to 6:30 PM on Monday-Friday), but that rate drops to a one-zone fare of $2.50 on weekends and after 6:30 PM.

You can get transit information by visiting Translink's site.
