My Project

I am attempting to produce a conceptual design of an ideal music composition controller aiming for non-professional music composers.

Why?

Nowadays, we see a lot of exciting technological advances incorporated into music—mainly for the performance of music. Music composition is also an exciting area to explore. Although there already exists a lot of software programs that contain a variety of music-editing functions that are very handy and user-friendly, these software programs are not 'mobile'. A hand-held device that allows people to compose music while they are away from the computer is very helpful. For example, a composer may come up with some great musical ideas out of a sudden, and he or she may not have access to a computer at that moment. It is useful if he or she can record the music immediately via a convenient handheld device.

Features

Because it is for non-professional users and intended for convenient input of melody, I have focused on the simple basic features (in contrast to all those advanced music composition software applications out there).

  • inputting music

  • editing music (melody, tempo, volume)

  • saving

  • playing back and navigating through the music

  • printing on music sheet
