SPIN has facilities in both Laboratory
for Computational Intelligence (LCI) in the CICSR
building and the Imager
Graphics and HCI Lab located next door in the Forest
Science Centre. Most students will spend time in both locations
at different phases of their research, and are members of both labs
with full access to their facilities. In general, LCI is where we
build things, and Imager is where we study them.

Set
up as a prototyping environment, the SPIN space in the LCI lab includes
prototyping benches and tools, several RT-Linux workstations and
a variety of haptic interfaces - as well as the projects of several students.
The
Imager facility is under construction, and will come on-line in
Fall 2002. It will include a new state-of-the-art multimodal observation
room for perceptual interface experimentation, featuring electronic
monitoring, acoustic / visual isolation and surround sound. Its
environments for experimentation will include an e-Lumens immersive
visual environment and a variety of haptic interfaces.
