Curious George

Curious George is the UBC LCI entry that placed first in the robot league of the Semantic Robot Vision Challenge for both 2007 and 2008. The 2008 team along with our robot, Curious George are shown below:

Team Info

The UBC Curious George team was formed to evaluate and demonstrate state-of-the-art recognition systems under realistic robotic scenarios. Our team members are pursuing technology to allow a robot to recognizer a large number of visual object classes autonomously and robustly. We are targetting this technology towards applications such as home robotics, elder care, and tour guide robots which can communicate with humans in the language of visual objects. The Semantic Robot Vision Challenge has been our current test bed for this technology. This contest involved recognition of visual objects in an environment constructed by the contest organizers (such as the one seen below), using training imagery available on the internet.
