Abstract Role of pre-mRNA secondary structure in splicing of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

High specificity of splice site identification by the splicing complex can not be fully explained by primary sequence conservation. This motivated us to look for the effects of RNA secondary structure in splicing. We used minimum free energy secondary structure prediction as well as structure predictions based on comparative sequence analysis to look for conserved stems within introns. We also examined structural characteristics of the branchpoint sequence.

This is still work in progress and any comments and suggestions will be appreciated.
